Platypus,
One thought - Pot sized bets will weed out most of the marginal stuff from calling you...2nd pairs, gutshots, overcards. The hands that call will generally be top pair or better or a sollid draw.
If you are always leading out for a pot sized bet when you hit, then you won't get many calls. You need to either bet more often (semibluff, continuation bet) and/or reduce your bet size. Most will vary their (flop) bet sizes from 50% pot to full pot. I rarely bet full pot myself, the vast majority of my flop bets are 60-80% of the pot.
I have no idea how you play, but if I am playing against someone that seems to only bet when they have the goods, and when they bet it is a big bet, I am calling/raising only with hands I can bust them with. Either I'll have TPTK, a set, 2 pair or a solid draw.
