SNGNOOB's $25/$50 Strategy

Postby SNGNOOB » Sat Jul 01, 2006 1:39 am

After those losing streaks, it feels like I forgot how to play poker. My bankroll is sufficent enough to play $25, here it is:

SNGNOOB'S STRATEGY

All raises = 4xbb +1bb/ limper
Call a raise with pocket pair with the 10x rule
Suited connector= Call raise in position and with a 20x rule? EDIT: Dont call raise with SC at all

Early Position
Raise AK,QQ
Limp/call raise: All pocket pairs
AA/KK: Sometimes raise/sometimes limp depending on table

Middle Position
Raise: AK,QQ,AQ,JJ,AA,KK
Limp/call raise: All pocket pairs

Late Position
Raise: AK,KK,QQ,JJ,AK,AQ,TT
Open raise: All suited connectors, pocket pairs, and AXs EDIT: Only raise with A9+ and 77+, dont raise with SC
Limp with 2 or more other limpers: SC,AXs
Otherwise limp with pocket pairs

Small and Big blind
Raise: AA,KK,AK,AQ ,EDIT: QQ,JJ,TT
Limp:Pocket pairs
Call with 3 or more others in the pot: SC,AXs,

I havnt worked much around the post flop play but in general:

- Continuation bet 2/3 then check/fold if unimproved on turn if called
- Play sets fast and hard (lead out 1/2 pot to preflop raiser or 1/4)
- Dont get too involved in unraised pots
- Most of the time, TPTK isnt good enough to go all in
- Dont chase without good odds and drawing to the nuts

In a difficult situation, I ask myself the following:
1. How much is invested?
2. What type of player is he?
3. What could he have?
4.What can/cant I beat
5. What does he think I have?
6. What did he do, and what could he have to do that?

Obvious signs of a strong hand (better than 1 pair):
1. Check min-raise
2. Early position limp then big re-raise
3. River check/raise
4 Called on flop, check min-raise on turn
5. Call, call, call, push

When not to play:
1. Tierd of hungry
2. Have other things to do
3. Lost more than 4 buyins for the day
4. Played more than 10 hours
5. When on tilt

Signs of tilting:
1. You think your opponent is bluffing
2. You really want to break even for the day
3. you want to keep playing

All comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks in advance[/b]

I don't like calling a raise with the SC. That's pretty tricky post flop stuff. I might only add that at a later time if you feel very comfortable.

I think you've got some pretty good ideas there. Best of luck.

Good stuff here, looks like you got a plan, make sure you stick to it.

With regards to your late position play, I would be careful open raising low Axs and low PPs from the CO and Button. At NL25 you are more likely to get callers and you could be in a world of hurt if you don't play correctly post flop. This is where you are going to have to start making notes on players and going with reads.
If I'm sat to the right of 2 or 3 loose players, I'm not going to raise it up with these kind of hands because I know they're probably going to play back with any piece of the board if I don't hit and I don't want to start playing big pots with these guys with nada. Here I guess you're looking to open raise A9+ and 77+.
If I'm on the right of 2 or 3 tight players then I'm raising a wide range of hands (sometimes any 2) mainly just to pick the blinds and if called a CB will usually take it down.

Out of the blinds, I would also raise it up with TT-QQ

Overall you have the right idea. Good post

So, you basically raise AK-AQs and AA-JJ. Pretty much limp everything else?

I'm not going to raise A9o-77 in LP unless I have a table full of rocks who will fold to any bet and stack off with TP if I hit the flop hard.

I think I would raise AK-AQs & AA-TT in any position, apart from TT UTG.
I am raising AQ-ATs in mid to late position first in, along with 99 and maybe KQs if the table is tight.

I would not call a raise preflop with SC's at all, although if I am bored and it is folded around to me OTB or CO I may raise with T9s or 76s.. etc..... rarely though.

I'm only calling preflop raises of 4-6bb MAX with small pairs, because you have no guarentee that you will win 10x the raise even when you do hit, and if you are running bad you can call a lot of 6xbb or more raises preflop (with correct implied odds) and spew a lot of chips before hitting a hand.

edit: - Dont chase without good odds and drawing to the nuts - Good pioint. So many fish chase open ended straights or GS draws with a flush draw on board and bad odds... hello! you are only drawing to 6 or 3 outs because the flush card is no good and you have seriously bad reverse implied odds if you make your flushing straight card...
same thing goes for chasing flushes on paired boards.... how do you know your flush card doesn't make you a donk by giving you opponent a FH?

I think AQ from MP is fine, you need to protect that hand. Just be careful when an A flops. I would remove AQ from the blinds IMO.

I generally only limp and play the flop...I'm only raising if I'm quite sure I'll only get one caller at most...and that caller is easily willing to fold to a CB.
