PLO $25 - Call or pass?

Postby Stoneburg » Thu Jul 06, 2006 1:20 pm

I'm new to the table so no reads yet.

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
9 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $34.47
UTG+1: $23.25
MP1: $18.04
MP2: $27.35
MP3: $43.80
CO: $18.60
Button: $15.56
SB: $60.94
Hero: $29.20

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is BB with [9s] [Ad] [8d] [8h]
2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button raises to $1.85, SB folds, Hero calls $1.6 (pot was $3.2), MP1 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls.

Flop: [Kd] [Ts] [5d] ($9.6, 5 players)
Hero checks, MP2 checks, MP3 checks, CO checks, Button bets $9.15
Hero ???

I'm guessing there's a veeery simple standard play here but... I don't know it.

I feel like folding because I only have the flush draw and I am facing a pot bet.
I feel like calling because if someone behind me calls I'll get the odds I need, and the PFR is shortstacked so even if I get no callers I'm not putting in much more than 1/3 with 1/3 chance of winning.
I feel like folding because someone could well check/raise all-in behind me... but then I'd definetely have odds to call so...

Bleh. Just tell me what the right play is. I feel like such a newb.

Yeah I guess it is more marginal than I thought. :?

I'm a bit too influenced by Stewart Reuben* recently. Reading his "How Good... PLO" book. He's probably too loose for these relatively shortstacked internet games I guess.

To my surprise I was actually ahead 62/38 on the flop with my pair of eights.

Party Poker
Pot Limit Omaha Ring game
Blinds: $0.10/$0.25
9 players

Stack sizes:
UTG: $34.47
UTG+1: $23.25
MP1: $18.04
MP2: $27.35
MP3: $43.80
CO: $18.60
Button: $15.56
SB: $60.94
Hero: $29.20

Pre-flop: (9 players) Hero is BB with [9s] [Ad] [8d] [8h]
2 folds, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls, Button raises to $1.85, SB folds, Hero calls $1.6 (pot was $3.2), MP1 folds, MP2 calls, MP3 calls, CO calls.

Flop: [Kd] [Ts] [5d] ($9.6, 5 players)
Hero checks, MP2 checks, MP3 checks, CO checks, Button bets $9.15, Hero calls $9.15 (pot was $18.75), 3 folds.

Turn: [3h] ($27.9, 2 players)
Hero checks, Button raises all-in $4.56, Hero calls $4.56 (pot was $32.46).

River: [Qc] ($37.02, 1 player + 1 all-in - Main pot: $37.02)

Results:
Final pot: $37.02
Hero shows 9s Ad 8d 8h
Button shows Js 9d 2s Qd

I doubt I'll be ahead often enough to make it a profitable call though, right?

many hands will have you in deeper trouble than this so you were lucky with the situation you were actually in.

As I said in my post, given this guy can't protect his hand on the turn (so you'll get to showdown for a pot bet plus a little bit more) I don't think it's particularly bad to draw to your flush, though if you have no significant other outs it's slightly -EV. As it happened you did have other outs (every card below an 8 is pretty much an "out" for you) so it worked out well.
