How many is too many entrants?

I want to play some low buyin freeze out MTT's. But I don't particularly want to play against 2000 opponents. What is considered the optimum range for number of entrants for an MTT that is not a "guaranteed" one? I know you want plenty of players so the prize pool is worth it, but you also dont want too many players to have to beat.

About 200 so that the prize pool is a decent amount, but you don't have to go through too many players. Just my opinion.

Had a stack of around 21k, was in SB with ATo, Button with a stack of about 14k raises 3xBB when it is folded around to him. I thought he was just trying to steal the blinds as they were now 300/600 + antes for a PF pot of about 1000 I think. I had ATo and called him. Flop came Axx, I pushed. He thought forever and a day and finally called. He had AQ. Damn.
That left me with about 7k in chips. An orbit later I had 6k in chips and got 44 in EP and pushed. 1 caller. He had TT and I was done. Finished 111th place for $10.18. Or $4.68 profit. Not the finish I was hoping for but it was cheap, had a HUGE prize pool for the buyin price, and most of all, good experience while being fun. I felt like I played really well too, with just that AT hand being the lone question mark in my play. Of course had he flipped over A9 I probably wouldn't be questioning it much. Heck, I didn't lose money and that's ALWAYS a good thing. Especially this week. Took about 2.5 hours.
