1/2 Tribeca tables

Hero is OTB with [Qd] [Qh]

SB is a fish, BB and UTG are sporty fish, and UTG+1 is unknown

UTG and UTG+1 limp, CO folds, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls, limpers call

Flop [ 9 SB)

[Kd] [6d] [5c]

checked to the unknown UTG+1 who bets, Hero raises, SB calls, BB folds, UTG folds,
UTG+1 calls

Turn [ 7.5 BB]

[8d]

checked to hero who checks it through

Im checking also. Although it might not be bad to fire another bullet and see what happens. UTG is probably done with this hand, but the fishies may have just hit their flush. With Qd I am in check call mode as long as its 1 bet to me.

I think it is really bad poker to check here on the turn. The UTG+1 betting into the preflop raiser (assuming he is a typical unsophisticated lowlimit player) usually means he got a piece of the flop - a K, a flush draw, a straight draw, two pair. Some of these hands you are ahead of, some behind (on the flop). The turn diamond sucks, but some hands like a K2o might be as scared of the diamond as you are and fold. There are also straight draws that aren't there yet and you don't want them to draw for free.
The Kd is on the board so if another diamond falls you have the second-nut flush, a very strong hand, so you have outs to fall back on if you are checkraised. But you can't give free drawing odds to the draws we just dicussed.
Assuming both call and don't checkraise you, take the free showdown on the river. It is unlikely anybody is calling on the river with a hand you beat if a blank falls anyway.

The real crux of the issue is that if you check the turn and a river nondiamond blank falls, you really cannot fold to a single river bet, so why not invest that bet on the turn when you have some fold equity, not calling with that bet on the river unsure of your situation?

I think if you didn't have the Qd I still bet the turn and fold to a checkraise because between the K and the flush you are beat 99% of the time if you are checkraised.

So either with Qd or without I think you need to bet the turn but for different reasons.
With the Qd, you have outs to fall back on, without the Qd you can fold to a turn checkraise. Either way bet it.

[quote="phytopath"]My thinking at the time was I was gonna get C/R if I bet out here, I was pretty sure I was behind at this point and no-one is gonna fold a K here no matter what I do.
My thoughts were to just check the turn through and if I was ahead I would be able to induce a bluff possibly by someone with second pair or worse, calling any river for one bet. I agree I may be losing value bets in these spots if they have a 7, or Ad or a pocket pair.[/quote

But it's going to be REALLY hard for anyone to checkraise you without a made flush, and you have outs to fall back on even if someone has a flush except one particular hand, the Adxd. Betting here may actually get a weak K out. The SB sitting there with K2o may think "well somebody has the flush and I wasn't really sure I was ahead against the raiser anyway, and now I got this guy to act after me and he might raise". The better the player, the more likely they are to fold.
