$25NL, So this is NL huh?

Postby Big_Leon » Mon Sep 04, 2006 11:04 pm

I've been running soooo bad at limit the last few months I decided to donk around in NL for the weekend. Supposed to be less variance, you get to make opponents pay for draws, etc. etc.

So after about 1,000 hands of 13.95% VP$IP I'm at a very solid -6.28PTBB and I'm not enjoying this one bit. :evil:

Under the Misc. Stats tab I've gone to showdown 35 times:

High Card........0 for 4, ($1.00)
One Pair..........11 for 17, $47.40
Two Pair..........4 for 6, $8.55
Three of Kind...1 for 4, ($40.65)
Straight............1 for 1, $7.45
Flush................2 for 2, $12.05
Full House.....0 for 1, ($14.60)

Here are the huge losers for me so far. I've been playing limit so long I don't know if I butchered these or what. All hands are at Pokerstars $25NL full ring.

#1

I'm in SB(full stack) with [4c] [4d] . LP limps, button limps, I complete and BB checks. All 3 have short stacks.

Pot = $1. Flop [4h] [Th] [3c] , I lead out for $0.75 all 3 call.

Pot = $4. Turn [Ks] , I bet $3, BB folds, LP raises to $6.85 all-in, button folds, and I call.

Pot = $17.50. River [Js]

LP shows [Ac] [Qc] for the very solid runner runner straight.

#2

I'm UTG(full stack) with [5s] [5h] and limp. CO and button limp, BB checks. CO covers.

Pot = $1. Flop [Ac] [Th] [Qh] , checks around.

Pot = $1. Turn [5c] , I bet $1 and CO min raises (I heard somewhere this is bad news for me :evil: ) others fold and I make it $5 total. CO pushes and I call.

Pot = $54. River [8h]

LP shows [Kc] [Jh] for floped straight.

#3

I'm CO(full stack) with [7c] [7h] . UTG limps(half stack), UTG+1 limps, I limp and BB checks.

Pot = $1. Flop [3d] [8c] [7d] , UTG bets $0.50, UTG+1 calls, I raise to $2 and both call.

Pot = $7. Turn [5s] , UTG checks, UTG+1 bets $5 all-in. I push and UTG calls.

Pot = $31.50. River [4h]

UTG shows [9s] [6s] for the turned straight (WTF is with all these straights!!!!!!) and UTG+1 mucks 1010.

#4 (this is a beauty)

I'm button (full stack with [8d] [8c] . MP limps, CO limps($14.50), I limp and BB checks.

Pot = $1. Flop [5c] [7s] [8s] , MP bets $0.50, CO min raises (sigh). I flat call and MP calls.

Pot = $4. Turn [Qd] , MP bets $0.50, CO min raises again. I raise to $5. MP folds and CO pushes all-in. I of course call.

Pot = $31. River [7d]

CO shows [7c] [7h] and I now officially hate this fucking game! :x :x :x :x

Is it time to limp my sorry ass back to the limit tables or what?

I guess my post wasn't really clear so let me be more specific. I've been playing LIMIT exclusively for 2 1/2 years. Other than SNGs and MTTs I've NEVER played NL ring games. I'm not trying to get pissy here, but yes, I have played enough hands to understand variance, downswings, running bad, etc etc.

I posted these hands because they were my biggest losers so far. If I win these hands or at least don't lose all of them then I'm winning in the short term and don't really feel worried. Perhaps they are simply bad beats and nothing more but when you first start a new game you have questions/doubts and would like to see if you are making any massive errors in your approach. Does anyone find folds on any of these hands? Does anyone dislike my play and if so what and why?

If someone tells me I need to first play 10,000 hands or some other stupid fucking arbitrary amount before I can start to ask if my playing sucks I"ve got a size 12 that I'll gladly shove straight up your ass.

That is all. Thank you for your time.

"#3 pencils and quadrille pads."
- Seymoure Cray (1925-1996) when asked what CAD tools he used to design the Cray I supercomputer; he also recommended using the back side of the pages so that the grid lines were not so dominant.

"Interesting - I use a Mac to help me design the next Cray."

Your play looks good. When your sets are losing at NL, you are going to lose. There's just no way around that. The next 10 times you play, your sets will win a lot of money for you. Hang in there.
