The opponent is an above average player, multitabler, that gave me some problems in the past. His flop mincheck raise can be a monster or a draw. Several hands ago he mincheckraised me on flop with set, when I had flush draw with overcards, then he checked turn and we got it AI on turn when I catched TP, river was a blank so he doubled up. It was just an orbit or 2 ago, so I 3 bet the flop to see if he has a hand this time. On turn I expected that he had a draw with this betting pattern, so I push.

He called some of my raises with marginal holdings, but I was raising hands like 53s from the CO so his range is rather broad. Postflop I was active, but I didn't CB every hand.

I have a bit more than a full stack, he covers.

Preflop: EP limps, I raise [Js] [9s] on the CO to 8, EP calls.
Flop (19): [Qd] [Jc] [5c]
checked to me and I bet 15, he mincheckraises to 30, I raise to 80, he calls
Turn (178): [6h]
he checks, I bet AI 120.

Thoughts?
Fancy play syndrome?

That smooth call of the re-raise worries me - I'm not sure a check means weakness on the turn from him - I would check to induce the bluff from a wild re-raiser most every time here.

It seems to me you are getting all in vs a good player with 2nd pair no kicker when you have no idea where you stand. It does rather seem like FPS to be honest..

Did you get away with it?

How does his betting pattern in this hand differ from that in the previous one? min raise flop/check to you on turn right? you don't know if he would have called or pushed with his set in the previous hand if you had put in a stiff re-raise as you just flat called then.

To answer your question I think it looks -EV. Why get all-in with junk vs a good player who may think you are tilting? (given he stacked you a while back) - I'm not convinced that he won't put you on an overplay and call you with just about any TP type hand..
I am prepared to be proved wrong by better better 'wild' players though - Xast?

The way I think about it from his point of view (ie playing asour opponent) on the flop if he has say top set is as follows:

My opponent is behind now
He is very aggro and may even be on tilt against me
His hand range is:

draw (str8 or flush)
air
decent made hand (2 pair, TPTK) but behind me

If I push flop I am giving him the chance to see 2 cards for his draw with (just about) the right pot odds (I haven't done calc) so I likely have no fold equity there.
I am not winning any more if he has air (he will fold)
With a strong but beaten hand he might call or laydown depending on how strong his hand is, how tilty he is and how he reads my push.

Instead of actually pushing if I just flat call then I disguise the strength of my hand and make it look like a draw.

On the turn I will check no matter what hits. Given the history and the pot size he is going to push the rest of his stack in if checked to no matter what. That way I get his money in if he has air or a medium strong hand as well as a draw.

Or maybe that's just FPS by me?
