not to sound harsh, but i don't think the issue is with your pf call, it's most likely with your post-flop play.
for example, in the hand you described, i think the CR was cavalier unless you had a read that villain was likely to fold.
there's absolutely nothing wrong with cold-calling a pfr and then folding on the flop. sometimes you'll find yourself flop dead and/or your opponents seem to hit hands for an extended period and it'll seem like you're spewing chips, but i think that it's a bit WT to fold a lot of these -- just the jankiest ones (and i mean J-A-N-K-Y).
also, there are some players against whom i pretty much won't ever play a marginal hand HU against -- either they play a wide range (so i can't put them on a hand) or they're tough to outplay post-flop (esp. OOP).
