KK fold preflop (?)

Postby poker2006 » Tue Oct 31, 2006 1:35 am

I'm curious how many people agree with this fold given the information about the CO player. This is 1/2NL 6max on Full Tilt, I have $430 in SB, CO has $267 pfp.

I have about 2.5k hands on CO, and he has won about $2k (21BB/100), a consistent winner. He plays 22% and raises 21%, so he raises every hand that he plays. His aggr factor is 3.6, with 5.3 on the flop.

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $1/$2
6 players

Pre-flop: (6 players) Hero is SB with [Kh] [Ks]
2 folds, CO raises to $8, Button raises to $29, Hero calls, BB folds, CO raises to $128, Button folds, Hero folds.
Uncalled bets: $99 returned to CO.

Results:
Final pot: $89

Probably 80% of the time I reraise KK pfp in this spot and commit myself to the hand. I wanted to try something different here and chkR a nonA flop, because I was expecting CO to bet. I have been trying to trap players because they are too aggressive on Full Tilt.

Then CO reraises about half of his stack, and gets commited to the hand. My main read is that he's a winning player, and I don't know if a good player would put in a third reraise without AA. Any thoughts? Not sure what the odds considerations are, given that I put in $29, and he has $267, so I'm risking 8x more on him having AA or not...

The other consideration was that I doubled up with a set an orbit ago, and thought retaining a big stack would be profitable later.

your hand strength is completely disguised. I beleive he can have QQ here often.

I really think he should have re-raised the $28 instead of smooth-calling it pre-flop - that would incredibly limit the guy's range so he would probably only push over a second re-raise with A-A the majority of the time.

Decent fold if he was 28/3 or something, but I think as your hand strength is disguised and he is obviously very aggressive pre-flop (with over 21% PFR), that I'd have been happy just getting my money in here.

Anyone who is 21% PFR is going to get played back at a lot pre-flop and be used to putting in the third raise without AA IMHO... of course it would help if you made offline notes on those players with over 2k hands in your DB - in which case you might already know his re-raising range - also you don't give stack sizes - was the third raise an attempt to put the BB all in?

as played, im ok with the fold....here's why:

if he's a significant winner, he knows how to read hands at least a little bit. and probably realizes over 2.5k hands that you're a winner too. so what do you think he puts you on when you cold-call the reraise OOP? i would say AA/KK/QQ are by far your most likely hands.

this is why i prefer a 4-bet preflop here, too. because your cold-call defines your hand just as clearly, doesn't cut down on implied odds to lesser hands, and there will potentially be 2 opponents seeing the flop.
