3 hands

Postby davebreal » Fri Nov 03, 2006 1:08 am

thoughts??? i'll add in my thought processes when i get a chance also. 1st two hand are against winning aggro-opponents, solid, yet capable of making moves. zero info on 3rd hand opponent. the 3rd hand seemed especially confusing to me but i thought the turn call was very loose/moronic.

Hand 1
Bets pot and reevaluates on the river.

Hand 2
Since opponent is tricky and capable of putting a move on you I am felting.

Hand 3
On the river I raise I but I think it is slightly -EV to do so. I would do it for meta game.

Edit: Mis-read hand 2 (didn't realize you had the 4)
Edit: Mis-read hand 3 as well (need to stop posting @ 8:00 in the morning)

Rhound - I got 2 outted in a $2000 pot last year, I have also broke a cup in half playing catcher. The feelings were similar.

Hand 1: fold is correct, I sometimes call because I am stupid

Hand 2: This is such a typical situation in PLO8 higher limits when you start to encounter really tough players. You know he has put you on a hand, and he also knows that you know this, so what does his bet mean? There were players on the $1k/$2k level at Party who were capable of making this move with almost anything because they knew they were putting you in a tough spot. I don't think the decision here is nearly as important as noting who this player is, and watching him very closely in the future. Given the equities, Goops analysis is probably correct. Aren't you glad you didn't have a big stack and this wasn't like a $2k table. There were times at night when you'd have 4-5 guys at the table who could literally have anything making this move at the $1k $2k levels. Scary players. Granted this was not all the time, but it does concern me about the prospects for table selection at this level in the near future. You really need a fish or two to be siting at the higher levels, or stuff like this makes the game VERY tough for guys like me (and you Dave) who are lower variance players moving up.

Hand 3: I call.

Hand 1 and 2 you've got to fold haven't you, barring any sort of read suggesting these guys are getting badly out of line (well, check in hand 1 and fold to a significant raise).

Hand 3 I think you definitely need to raise that flop. I think I'd be tempted to raise the turn. By the river I can't see why you'd want to do anything other than call unless the guy is very loose indeed.

Hand 1: Your action on the turn should depend on how tight villain really is. If he calls on the flop with nut low draw + top pair or better hands only you have to check/fold the turn. But if his range of hands he is calling a bet on the flop with includes non nut hands like set/flush + second/third low draw hands you should bet the pot on the turn.

Hand 2: In my opinion you have put yourself in a tough spot by reraising preflop and betting only 2/3 of the pot on the flop. This is a nice flop for your hand despite the 2[d] . You should bet the pot on the flop. Then you are virtually pot committed and can easily go all-in if villain check raises.

Hand 3: I agree with Monk's advice.
The final pot will be $1040 and Dave will be calling $400 into it and according to Poker Calc Dave is 50/50 against A3XX with spades
this is the reason i stayed in the hand, thinking I was generally about even money... of course I ran into A23K w/ spade draw.

is this really an easy/routine laydown and i'm just not realizing it????
