From my limited live game play (and note that the games in Aus must differ in skill from the games on vegas/usa) I don't think the 1/2 NL game here is beatable ($5 per hour timecharge plus a 5% up to $6 rake - remember we don't tip the dealers though). I think our 2/3 game with a $200 buyin (same rake structure) is beatable to the tune of $25 per hour. The 2/5 game in which i've played the most, I think is beatable at about $60-$80 per hour depending on time of day/table chosen/etc (i don't have enough experience to narrow the range down any more). The rake for that game is 10% up to $6 with a $10 per/hr time charge.
I think online play is much much much much much much much more profitable than live play if you get two players of equal skill (given that they can multi-table effectively).
Poker is silly.
It is not enough to be good at chess, you must also play well.
