Ice storm hits Oklahoma

Postby iceman5 » Mon Feb 12, 2007 9:46 pm

So I went to Oklahoma to play some live poker (hence the catchy thread title ).

Im not sure Ive ever had a rush of card like this. I played 6 hours which is about 175 hands or so and I hit 5 sets. Alot of these hands are fairly standard and the only one that I need help with is #3.

#1) Im getting NO cards the 1st hour and actually got 82 offsuit 3 hands in a row and Im talking to the guy beside me aabout it. Ive won one pot out of 3 Ive played and I havent raised yet. I have $450. Tight guy raises to $25 and has me well covered. I reraise to $75 with [Ac][As] in the SB. He calls heads up.

Pot $160. Flop [Ah][2c][4s]. I check. He says "you got aces and are trying to trap me?" I shrug my shoulders and he checks behind.

Pot $160 Turn [8d]. I sheepishly check again. He insta bets $100. I think and then CRAI. He calls with KK and then goes on and on about how well I played it. I said, "Ive folded for an hour did you think I was bluffing?"

#2) Only a couple hands later, UTG limps, I limp [Kd][Kc]. 2 more limpers.

Pot $30. Flop [8c][4d][3s]. Checked to me and I bet $20. CS does what he does best and calls. Young asain guy raises to $120. UGH. He only has another $120 behind. I hate to lose a big pot with KK after limping, but I really doubt he raises that much with a set on this board. I think he has A8 so I shove all in. I probabl shouldve just called so the CS could do what he does best again. CS folds and Asian guy calls. I ask him if he has 2 pair and he wont answer.

Turn [Ts]
River [Kh]. He mucks his 84 off suit. OK, I got lucky but it serves him right for playing 84 when not even in the blinds. God help these fools when I catch a suckout or 2.

#3) Fish limps in EP. I raise to $25 with [5c][4c]. Solid (but not tricky or anything) guy on button calls as does the BB and the limper.

Pot $100ish. Flop [Jc][6c][4s]. BB checks, fish in EP leads $50. I think and call. Button calls also.

Pot $250. Turn [2h]. EP checks.....whats my play here? They both have $400ish and I cover.

#4) Same fish from hand #3 raises $20. I call with [5c][5s]. The BB calls.

Pot $60. Flop [Qh][4s][5d]. They both check to me. I check behind. The fish who raised preflop has the most blatant tell Ive ever seen. When he sees a flop he likes or the turn hits him or whatever, his jaw starts pulsating. Hes got a fat face so the pulsating is very pronounced. When he saw the flop, there was no pulsing.

Pot $60. Turn [7s]. BB checks, fish bets $30. I raise to $90. BB folds and fish calls.

Pot $250. River [8c]. No pulsation and he checks. I say "I check also because Im an idiot". I dont know what i was thinking but I had a bad feeling he called the turn raise with a draw ( a 6). Stupid stupid stupid. He had JJ. He wouldve called a river bet.

#5) Couple limpers and I have [As][Tc] in the BB.

Pot $25. Flop [Kd][Qh][Js]. I lead $20. 2 guys call including this same fish.
Pot $85. Turn [8c]. I bet $100. 1 guy calls and fish folds.
Pot $285. River [4s]. The guy has $175 left and I push. Even an idiot like me will bet the river with the nuts 8-) . He calls with KT.

#6) I limp [8d][7d] after a limper. LP raises $15 and there are 2 callers including me.

Pot $50. Flop [8c][7c][5d]. I lead $30. Preflop raiser calls as does another guy.

Pot $140. Turn [2s]. I lead $100. Preflop raiser calls. The other guy is in seat 2 and shows the dealer his cards and folds. Preflop raiser is in seat 10 and has almost the exact angle at the 2 seats cards that the dealer does. I come unglued. The dealer says she only saw one card. I ask seat 10 if he saw the cards and he says No and I think I believe him. Im still pissed. The dealer says she saw one card and it was a Jack.

Pot $340. River [Ks]. Villain has $410 left. I say "I think Im gonna have to go all in". Villain thinks for a long time and calls with [Ac][Kc]. Sometimes I actually play good

#7) I call a $35 raise with [4s][4h]. 4 to the flop.

Pot $140. Flop [Th][Td][4c]. The 2 guys between me and the raiser are HUGE CSs. I lead $50. Everyone folds. UGH.

#8) I hit another set and win money
#9) I hit another set and pound someone......rinse and repeat

#2 - limping Ks?!?!?! Then you go on to say "OK, I got lucky but it serves him right for playing 84 when not even in the blinds." LOL - I was thinking the same thing about pocket kings getting busted by 8-4 - serves you right! Only time I ever slowplay a big pair is headsup and even then it's because I'm having trouble getting my opps to play a big hand. OK - once playing 4-handed at a final table, I played AA by limping when checked into on the button and the 2 short stacks were both in the blinds. Then I figured at least one of them would be looking for a chance to steal the blinds and/or double up against a limper - but that was a tourney!

#3 - fold preflop but u didn't so... on the turn check it thru! Very likely one or both opps are also on the club flush draw so you're actually only drawing to a 6-hi str8 - take the free card and be grateful. If a club hits the river - oh boy! This is one flush I won't want to invest much in!

#4 - why did you ck-thru the flop? - you had position and your set was hidded. A modest bet of around 1/2 the pot would look like a steal from position. Best way to get money in the pot is to bet and here was a lost opportunity - imo.

1: I hate your comment after the hand. I like the turn check, I hate his call.

2: Don't like the pf limp at ALL. UTG fine, but not over a limper: your second limp will very very often induce a lot of MORE limping, NOT raising. Gotta push when he's that short...he could certainly have A8 or 99.

3: Check behind. It's big time multiway and a growing pot...you have lots of hidden outs that you'll get paid off more than the flush. If you want to get paid on the flush, you have to bet, but you don't really want to have to call a push. So, just check.

4: I fire the river here: he has a tell, and it's absent!!!! If he comes over the top, oh well, fold...but go with your read!

5: Seems really standard, but I don't like the overbet with a rainbow flop. I prefer it with a 2tone flop.

6: Don't 'come unglued' just be VERY calm about it: say that you're genuinely concerned that seat 10 saw the card...and keep playing. When this situation comes up, I'd prefer to act really pissed off on the river and make the push aggrevated to make it really look like a bluff...maybe grit your teeth/clinch your jaw when you do it...that'll sell it for sure.

7: I bet here too...you want the big pot and don't REALLY want to let a 9-A snap off since you can so easily have been turned here...get the money in when you're sure you're good and you know they'll be more than happy to do it with just trips, instead of letting them NOT make a mistake when they hit the turn.

Hand3. Check is a better play IMO.
It's very likely that one of them has Jx and another one a bigger flush draw. If you bet you can get called in 2 places drawing to hidden outs (2 pars, trips, straight), but you'll get payed if you hit these out anyway, so no need to escalate the pot when behind and without folding equity.

#1) I made the comment so I would be able to make a few bluffs later.

#2) I limped KK because it was like 3-4 hands after AA and I thought everyone would fold if I raised. I thought someone would raise behind me. I made this exact play with AA from UTG+1 in Vegas and nobody said a word about it because it got raised behind me and I won a huge pot against the crazy German. Obviously I know I can get in trouble if nobody raises for me.

#3) I checked the turn. The solid button bet $75. EP fish called so I called.

Pot $475. River [Ac]. EP checks. My play?

#4) Again, Im an idiot

#5) After BKs comments, I remember that there was a flush draw on the turn which is why I bet $100 instead of $60 or so.

Hadn3. I like a bet of about 100 here. No one is going to raise it without a flush and you can induce a crying call from Button if he has something like AJ. And fish can call with ahything.

Just make sure that you fold if this bet is raised no matter the pot odds you will have.

One more hand I forgot about

#10) UTG straddles to $10. UTG+1 is the CS Ive mentioned. He limps. another limp and I raise to $70 with [Ad][Kh] in the SB. BB is also a CS and cold calls.

Straddler folds and now UTTG+1 reraises all in. Folded to me and its $220 to me. This guy did limp UTG with AA about an hour ago, but like he does every hand he misplayed it. He checked the hand down against 2 guys with a board something like K9523.

The BB has $220 or so left and looks like he wants to call as Im thinking.

Call or fold?
