I find that PLO is actually less variance than NL Hold'em. Mainly because my NL opponents tend to be more aggressive/tricky, whereas the PLO ones are more loose/passive/honest. I think when both games are played "correctly" (ie: aggressively and tricky) PLO is higher variance due to there being more scenarios where it is correct to put your stack in, but in general I find Hold'em players to be more variance prone.
