TPTK deepish, bloated pot (1000NL FR)

Postby Triple B » Mon Apr 09, 2007 6:16 pm

Yes, I actually play some full ring now and then. I am playing at 1000NL because I noticed the table was fairly weak and loose.

Villain in this hand has about $1750, I just cover him. I am sitting next to him in position.

Some history: Earlier, he limped, I raised to $45 with JJ and BB came along. Flop came T93 with a flush draw. I bet near pot and he CRAI. I folded. This was one of his first hands at the table and he made some obnoxious comment in chat, which he continued to do periodically (to others as well)...seems that he likes to bully. Another hand I flopped a set in an unraised pot that was 5 way. I think it was 55 on a A53 board with a 2 flush or something like that. He bet $35 into the $50 pot, I raised it up to ~$135, he folded. He has been playing pretty LAG, I would estimate he was playing a good 40% of hands (no PT).

FYI this site has a BTP button, which is widely used.

On to the hand. 2 limpers, villain pots it to $55. I call with [Ah][Ks]. I thought about reraising but wanted to keep things simple as I had just unchecked my "auto post" to end my session. BB calls, as do the limpers. Off we go...5 to the flop.

Flop $277 [Ac][3d][6d] Checks to villain, he bets $277, I call, all others fold. At this point I put him on a big ace (since he bet into 4 other people). I know AK/AQ are in his range, very probably AJ, maybe AT (along with AA if he is lucky enough). He had been limping a fair bit so I tend to think 33 and 66 are not likely raising hands for him, same with A-rag. Axs could be in there. I just call here to A) induce a bet on the turn with a lesser hand, and B) to find out if there is a set out there behind me, since they pretty much have to raise (shove) when the pot is this big and 2 people obviously like their hand and may be drawing.

Turn $831 [Jc] Villain pots it $831, I shove for about $600 more.

Thoughts on my flop play and thought process and turn play?

The "bet pot" button sure changes things doesn't it? This hand reads a whole lot like typical hands I see at full ring Ultimate Bet 5c/10c NL tables....

This is way out of my league but here's my thoughts for what they're worth...

I like preflop and flop very much.

Turn brings up the AJ problem. I don't think he would pot the flop with AA catching the set so I'm ruling that out. Leaves AK-AT at least 90% of the time. He's close to committed after his bet and will likely call with AK AQ AJ, but I bet he can fold AT to your push. So the only difference between a call and a push is AT which probably won't be able to check/fold the river but will fold if you push. AT is unlikely anyway of course. And you can't flat call because a third diamond would be annoying.

Shorter version ... I don't see any better way to play this. Too bad he probably had AJ.

I like a reraise preflop, especially if you know that you can finish in a 5 way pot after a single raise (this depends on the dynamics of the table), moreover you are deep enouhg to have some chips to play postflop.

Flop call I like.

Turn is a very tough spot. You see if he has AQ, J is a very bad card for him, as now he beats only draws. And many players wouldn't bet so hard with AQ, making this hand less likely.

If we take the range AA(1), AK(6), AQ(8), AJ(6) with corrseponding freqencies I think that turn is close choice between push and fold. (Don't forget about [Ad] [Kd], [Ad] [Qd].)

From additional info that you gave, i.e. he bet less than a pot with marginal hand (folded to your reraise), and factoring stack sizes (most of the people are afraid to play for double stacks with one pair) I would reduce the probability of him having AQ to effectively 4 combos, making it a fold.

Summary:
Reraise preflop seems to be a better choice.
Flop is fine, thought process is fine.
Turn looks like a fold, thought process is absent.

I think it's a very possible that he has an A and a flush draw. Many people love to bet close to pot with these pair+draw hands.

I think [Ad] [Kd] , [Ad] [Qd] , [Ad] [Jd] , [Ad] [Td] and possible lower AXs makes up a big part of his range at the turn.

Even without doing any math, I think a push > fold.

He wants the hand done and I think TPTK is good enough to be in there...he COULD do this with AJ, but I doubt it because he prolly puts you on AQ type hand OR a draw and would milk you if he had AJ or >AK.
