facing a small reraise with aces preflop

Postby euri10 » Tue May 17, 2005 3:33 am

what's your move here, do you want all your money in the pot or do you want to see the flop ?
I found the reraise of Razor Razoo quite weak, I don't understand it very well but for me it's not the sign of aces.
After he reraise me there are 4 people who call !!!
That leaves me without a chance to win the pot with that much people without position, with 3 spades !
I could fold, but I can also win the pot right now by reraising everybody ...
What are your thinkings here, I'm not that much used to face reraise and my thoughts are really confused about how to handle it...

if any importance, my reads about the players involved :
Razor Razoo : absolutly no idea
tylergf : solid player, but quite nervous after having lost 2 big post with his top set
Jomppa(80) : arrive at the table, 1st hand so no idea
mariaparker : short stack, pot commited, bad player
Speedyroo : tight, in love with my avatar

Yeah, you need to re-raise here and hope to get it 2 or 3 handed to the flop, pretty much for the reasons Star said. You can get over 2/3 of your stack in here, and for me that's pretty much the absolute cutoff for re-raising when I have aces, even a fairly weak AA hand like yours.

I wouldn't expect to win significantly more often than an average hand if you get it 2 or 3 handed, but there'll be dead money in the pot, you MIGHT be a good favourite against other hands containing aces, or you might get lucky and get just one opponent playing at you with KKxx or something. The alternative is just to call and hope the flop brings something like 228, two spades, or (if you're very lucky) an ace. However, you're out of position, in a multi-way pot, with a hand that won't play very well multiway BUT which is liable to be +EV to get all in against one to three opponents, so I think that's the best course of action.

If you had deeper stacks (say, 150-200) then you couldn't get enough in with a re-raise for it to be worthwhile, given your poor position and bad situation if you collect 3 or 4 callers, and so merely calling would be a better option.

I'm happy to see that both of you think the reraise is appropriate, I wasn't very sure.
I think I was a good favorite for a side pot.
this is what happened !

benovitch: raises $49 to $57
Razor Razoo: calls $40 and is all-in
tylergf: folds
Speedyroo: folds
Jomppa(80): calls $31 and is all-in
mariaparker: calls $6.35 and is all-in
*** FLOP *** [6c] [7d] [Jc]
*** TURN *** [6c] [7d] [Jc] [9s]
*** RIVER *** [6c] [7d] [Jc] [9s] [8s]
*** SHOW DOWN ***
benovitch: shows [Ad 2s As 7s] (a pair of Aces)
Razor Razoo: mucks hand
benovitch collected $18 from side pot-2
Jomppa(80): mucks hand
benovitch collected $73.95 from side pot-1
mariaparker: shows [5d 8d Kd 4s] (a straight, Five to Nine)
mariaparker collected $71.40 from main pot
*** SUMMARY ***
Total pot $166.35 Main pot $71.40. Side pot-1 $73.95. Side pot-2 $18. | Rake $3
Board [6c 7d Jc 9s 8s]
Seat 1: Razor Razoo mucked [Tc Td 2c 3c]
Seat 2: tylergf folded before Flop
Seat 3: duffer57 folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 4: Speedyroo folded before Flop
Seat 5: toaster88 (button) folded before Flop (didn't bet)
Seat 6: Jomppa(80) (small blind) mucked [Th Ts 3d 3h]
Seat 7: G_braa (big blind) folded before Flop
Seat 8: mariaparker showed [5d 8d Kd 4s] and won ($71.40) with a straight, Five to Nine
Seat 9: benovitch showed [Ad 2s As 7s] and won ($91.95) with a pair of Aces

I think I'm very lucky here given that number of players who called and this board but 2 guys holding TT is definitly a chance for me !
no comment about hands of my oppponents this is quite funny to see them...
I'll run some 2dimes simulations tomorrow, I saw some interesting things...but it's late now, Black Eyed Peas was definitly a good concert but I'm not 15 anymore so dancing all the night is very hard for me :) !!!

Yeah, 3 callers really hurts your hand. Against 3 RANDOM hands your hand is not much better than 25% shot, but you weren't to know you'd get so many calls. Think you played it OK.

The other point I forgot to mention is - I usually don't raise that hand from that position. If you'd just played more patiently and called, cos of your crap position and knowledge that your hand doesn't really do much for you against a few callers unless you flop big (ace or good flush draw), I usually take a look at that flop cheaply. Once you raised and got re-raised I think you have no other option than to pop it. Not necessarily a BAD play to raise occasionally early on, but I prefer to do it with strong multi-way drawing hands than with hands like yours that either play well on cheap flops or short fields.

the real hand :

I was astonished to be a 40% favorite here ! but the 2 guys holding TT increase my EV dramatically. look at the last garbage hand, it's a 30% favorite !

let's change one holding with something like 99

http://twodimes.net/h/?z=961589

as Monk said everybody is here more or less at about 25%

and finally let's say that one of the opponent folded
