You re-raise a high PP, and an Ace flops. Now what?(100NL 6)

Lets assume full stacks, and lets say a TAG (like around 18/14/3.0 stats) raises it from the CO or button. You have TT, JJ, or QQ, or even KK in the blinds and you re-raise pot. Villain calls.

Flop come out Ace High rainbow. What do you do? Obviously, most of the time you are going to put out a continuation bet. But what do you do if Villain raises here? It's either push or fold.

If villain is a thinking player here, he knows that it doesn't matter what he has. He knows that I probably can't call without either AA or AK. Maybe AQ.


This situation came up this morning.

I had QQ in the SB. TAG raises from CO, and I bump it to 11.50. He calls. So there is $24 in the pot.

Flop came A 8 3 rainbow. I lead for $18 and he raises 3x, to $54. I ended up folding

Betting or checking are both fine, so long as you balance out your game by doing the same with AK/AQ. I prefer betting, but that just fits my style more.

It's not that great of a bluff spot for him becuase AK/AQ should compose a very large percentage of your range.

Assuming your range is {AA/AK/AQ/KK/QQ/JJ/TT} - you'll have an Ace over 50% of the time. In your example, when he raises and you fold, he wins $42. When he raises and you jam, he loses $54. It's not +EV for him to bluff you there.
