In that case you are right. But imagine you have AK in that situation and the flop is A82. In a raised pot, you can fold TPTK to enough action but when the pot is 3bet and a regular CB is going to be a decent chunk of your stack, you basically have to stack off in that scenario.

The same goes for aces. It's basically never correct to fold AA HU in a 3bet pot for 100BBs, but it can be correct to do so when the pot is only raised once.

I think the point he was making when he said this was that calling 3bets with hands such as AJ is bad because when an ace flops, you're basically committed to stack off even when there's a high chance you're behind.

The dynamics of the table and opponents you're against certainly affect this all, and it wasn't a hard and fast 'be all and end all' rule - but I think it definitely has some merit.

I don't think that there is a clear cut answer to preflop play. 3bet vs call. I can see merits for both plays. IMO it goes down to dynamics which you want to create. Surely you should have a balanced range for your 3bets and calls, but there are many ways to create such balance.

I even disagree that 3betting only with QQ+ would be a bad idea. Against maniacs who don’t adjust and bluff too much we are in hugely +EV position 3betting just QQ+ and calling with AK going to fit or fold. You see, with such a dynamics you don’t need to exploit smaller edges, i.e. 3betting TT. It could be even wrong to do so, as maniac is ready to bluff/overplay TP and playing TT OOP in a bloated pot could be very difficult.

Even if dynamics is such that Button raises a lot of marginal hands preflop, 3betting him with TT every time could be not the best solution, as he would know that when you just call preflop you don’t have TT+ and it will be hard to play postflop. There are, of course, the obvious cases like Button playing like 30/25, then you should 3bet him for value.

Ok. My point is that we can’t tell in a vacuum that 3betting > call, there are too many variables which we don’t know (i.e. what is called dynamics) and without them there is no clear answer IMO.

I agree.

However I think never 3betting TT preflop in this situation is a much larger mistake than always doing it. This is assuming the opponent isn't an extreme (maniacal or super tight). There are the 10% of players on either end of the spectrum to which 3betting PF is incorrect - against the other 80% though you should be 3betting with TT+ about 80-90% of the time (not all the time, I also agree here).
