Ya know, I was reading this hand again and I really don't think MP3 played this badly at all.
He raises an early limper with 88. I like this aggessive play to get the blinds out in position - it really doesn't look like it is going to be a 5-way pot to make limping for set value alone correct.
The flop comes A high with alot of draws and SB leads out into the preflop raiser- this alot of times is someone that just hit a piece of the flop or could be a draw - maybe a weak ace - most with AJ/AQ/AK checkraise here so there a great chance that 88 is ahead.
The original limper now folds so it is headsup, so 88 correctly raises to charge the likely draw or random piece of flop for the turn but SB threebets which probably surprised 88.
It would pretty weak-tight to just fold here, so 88 calls.
SB now checks the turn, so 88 figures he doesn't have a strong A (and maybe not an A at all) and may be on a draw - so he bets to avoid giving a free card and just gets called.
I would not have bet the river with 88 under the "only called with a better hand theory" but that really is his only clear-cut mistake.
Meanwhile, SB butchered every street but only flatcalling preflop, then doesn't CR flop, then doesn't lead turn or river.
SB is the player that should be buddy-listed as passive passive passive.
