Villian is a Tag (18/6/2 small sample). Should I have tried to keep the pot smaller with this hand?

After getting raised I guess QQ could be seen at showdown but probably unlikely. Its only $1.60 to see a pot of $6.67 and Im wondering if that should be taken into consideration since it seems Im most likely against a set. (I don't think 78s/23s makes the call before the flop from this player).
