NL O8 - Anyone playing it?

Postby JDLush » Thu May 26, 2005 10:34 am

Well, I think I'm gonna clear my bonus at FTP about the same time I have that threesome with Elisha Cuthbert and Jennifer Love Hewitt. In an effort to speed things up I decided to try some $100 NL O8.

All I can say is, what a monkey fest that game is. Maybe it was just the table complexion, or the fact that not too many people want to play O8 on Full Tilt, but it switched from loose passive (6 guys limping to see the flop) to manic aggressive (guy goes all in preflop with $65, gets 3 callers) in a heartbeat. I played ridiculously tight preflop and somewhat weak post flop and ended up $55 after an hour and a half. I didn't get sucked out too often tho, but then again I didn't go fishing either.

Does anyone play this here? If so, how do you play it? Can I be consistent playing this rocky? I did get calls more often than not when I caught a hand, but I think that was mainly because there was so much seat fluctuation from guys busting out all the time. I can see someone easily dropping 4 or 5 buyins in 10 minutes with some bad luck.

One funny note, a guy called me a lucky c*cksucker when I busted him with my nut low/nut flush combo. I had A236ds and he had 2459. He called a $4 pre flop raise with that and had called my pot sized bet when the flop came 38K all in my suit. All I said in reply was 'thanks for playing, there will be some lovely consolation prizes for you offstage.' :D

Tom, I'm quite tempted to delete that off-topic post. We were talking about Jennifer Love Hewitt, come on...

Errrrr oh, and about NLO8... Yes it does change the game, bigtime. Becomes a serious preflop game, because the REAL serious fish in NLO8 push their stacks preflop as an underdog, which almost seems absurd, when you think about it (if you're THAT bad, why not play the pot-limit game where you lose your money slower? But the gamblers seems to gravitate towards the no-limit games, especially on Stars). So, given the NL/PL choice in O8, I'd take NL every time, personally.

If playing a reasonable amount of money (three figures and above for the buyin) you want to seriously consider IMAGE as being important in this game, more than any other (i.e. a $200 PLO game has little in image constraints, at NLO8 even at THIS level it becomes vital). You can engender a "loose/crazy" image much more easily AND take advantage of it in this game than any other. Your other main constraints are to remember that a high pair with your A2 is worth a lot more in NLO8 than PLO8, and to try to play a game that you hae at least 30-40 buyins for, because the variance will be brutal.

PS So what about Love-Hewitt eh? And Elisha.... well...

There was a run for a few days where there was a $50 or $100 NLO8 game going on each night at Full Tilt. Since FT does not have nearly as many accomplished O8 players as Stars does it has been very nice for me. The PLO8 games have been good as well of late (looks like I'm in the middle of another one of my bi-monthly hot runs), but the NL games were just crazy. Guys pushing in with nothing but a low draw after the flop (i.e., they have A2xx where xx is crap/crap and the flop is 48K). For a while all I did was play A2xx where one of the x cards was another wheel card and any hand with a pair of jacks or better. I'd push when I flopped a set or hit a wheel and let the rest go. Boring at times, but very juicy.

There hasn't been another NL game for a few days now, so I guess I will have to be content with the other stuff.

BTW, Perry Friedman was playing some shorthanded 5/10 limit O8 the other night. Nice guy, and pretty generous with his chips. :)

Well, I get the feeling Cuthbert would be more receptive to some hot protein splashing across her face, but I think you could use Love Hewitt's insecurity to get her to take it in the dumper once in a while.
