Stud is a much more complex game and tougher to master than holdem -- the big reason being that it's tougher to get an edge. There's less of a gap between a monster starting hand and a total crap starting hand in stud than there is in holdem. And the variance is greater in stud than in holdem, basically because the fish have one more betting round to chase you down.
That said, the game can be a goldmine if you learn to play it well.
