The only real read I have on the guy is that I think he's raising too much (ie... as much as I am), and I saw him play this hand earlier...

The min raise is obviously a non standard way of playing the hand but I dont mind it as long as you fold to the push.

Its a raised and reraised pot. The guy is going to bet every street if he has an overpair and probably check the turn with AK / AQ type hands. If hes a total LAG and can have non normal reraising hands then I would call the shove, but there arent many people like that at these stakes.

So by min raising, you get to find out what hes going to do on the turn before the turn comes and for less money. Most people are going to fold to the min raise if they missed the flop. When he shoves, its pretty clear he didnt miss.

If you just call the flop, hes going to fire again on the turn with an overpair and its going to be a large bet, so if you call the flop its basically the same thing as floating with nothing. If he fires again you fold and if he checks, you bet. You also give him the chance to hit an ace or king on the turn if you just call.

There are people who fire 2nd barrells w/ nothing, and there are definitely players who are capable of seeing his min raise for just what it is. A way to "see where hes is at". Also, donks who love AK are not going to fold it to someone who min raised them.

If the guy calls the min raise with AK, hes not going to bet the turn unless he hits.

Now MVP checks behind and gets to showdown cheaper than if he just called the flop and called a "2nd barrell" turn bet which would almost always be more than MVPs raise.

As long as MVP also min raises the flop with a set here, I see nothing wrong with it on occassion. Viliain is going to shove all in over top of a min raise like never with AK so MVP did find out where he was at (unless the guy can have TT here). He also now knows that he can get the guy to shove his overpair if he min raises him so now MVP has the advantage.
