Help me buy a DVD player.

There's no real telling which format is going to win out right now. Your choices are:

1) Look at which studios support which formats and pick one based on that
2) Get a more expensive player which can do both
3) Get an upscaling DVD player like Oppo and wait it out

Keep in mind that in 4-5 years the hardware will be super cheap, so the question is what do you want to get out of your TV and how much are you willing to pay for it until then?

Sony and Disney are both pushing blu ray, so I'd bet on it being the winning format, but it's close. Porn supports HD DVD though, and in the past, whatever format the porn industry went with won out. Now that most people just get all their porn off the internet though, it probably won't matter as much.

Also, the answer as to what player to get is easy: a PS3. It's the cheapest player available and as it turns out, it also plays video games.

Dont you think the format linked to porn are just chance? I mean, the pron industry as a whole moves what? 2Billion? That is nothing compared to the rest of the business.

I am not sure about the exact figure but i think 2billions is what i heard in "Family Business" a few days ago.

I think BR will be the winner because i understand Universal was also releasing movies in BR, but, as i said, the latest releases are now in both formats.

I think the PS3 is probably the best choice.
