Which of these raises are bluffs?

Postby iceman5 » Sun Feb 10, 2008 6:19 pm

Im working very hard on bluffing alot more and so far so good. Can you tell which of these raises of mine are bluffs?

#1) I raise to $10 after UTG limps. He calls heads up.
Pot $23. Flop [Qd][Qh][9s]. He checks, I bet $13 and he calls.
Pot $49. Turn [4s]. He checks and I check behind.
Pot $49. River [6c]. He bets $12. I raise to $62. Value bet or bluff?

#2) SB raises min raises to $4. I call in the BB.
Pot $8. Flop [6c][5h][2h]. He bets $4 and I call.
Pot $16. Turn [Kc]. He bets $13. I min raise to $26. He calls.
Pot $68. River [Th]. He checks. I bet $54. Bluff or not?

#3) Button limps. I raise to $9 in the SB. BB calls and limper folds. BB and I both have about $350
Pot $20. Flop [Kc][Qs][Jh]. I bet $15. He min raises to $30. I reraise to $95. Bluff?

#4) I raise to $7 in the cutoff. SB calls.
Pot $16. Flop [3h][3s][2d]. He checks, I bet $10. He check raises to $30. I reraise to $65. Bluff or value raise?

#5) I raise to $6 in the SB. BB calls.
Pot $12. Flop [Ah][As][6d]. I bet $8. He min raises to $16. I reraise to $34. Bluff?

My apologies to those of you who hate these type posts. I really want to get a feel for what you put me on. Obv you dont know what villian has so you cant decide if you could call or not, but which hands do you think Im full of shit and which ones do I have a real hand that I expect to win if called or reraised?

#1 looks like a bluff, you're raising a weak river lead that looks like JK/JT/whatever more than a value bet.

#2 Your turn raise is horrible no matter what you have, it's a double suited/drawy board. This hand is just retarded imo and I'm too confused to really tell if you're bluffing, so I'm gonna guess you're not.

Hand #3 is never a bluff.

Hand #4 is consistently a bluff.

Hand #5 is both a good spot to bluff and go for value when you have it (this does not contradict itself), so yeah it just depends on whether you had it this time.

WHAT I SCORE!? (out of the first 4)
The better player should win the race. Always.

1. Looks bluffy but I could see it being for value with JJ+ or something like that. I say bluff though due to his weak bet.

2. The dreaded min-raise. I would say bluff because this is a bad line if you actually have something.

3. This could easily be a bluff, but there is no way to tell. I would think this is for value though since you are deep.

4. I would say bluff. There is not many reasons to 3-town this flop with AA or something like that.

5. I would say bluff because you expect villain to slowplay an A and therefore you are rebluffing.

It's a trick question you're really the villain in all of them and you played all the hands like a donk and maximized profits as a result?
Boy, you got me confused with a man who repeats himself.

Be glad your opponents refuse to fold; if they didn't, you just might go broke.

#1) I had [Kc][Jc]. He said "9 no good?" and he folded. He was obviously blocking the river and based on his betting patterns I knew he wouldnt call.

#2) I had [Jc][8c]. He said "nice river" and folded and showed 77. He was pissed and convinced I rivered him. I played this one just like every moron plays a monster and although I knew he had something (probably a pocket pair since he min raised preflop) and I hoped it wouldnt be enough to call with.

#3) I had KK for top set. He folded. You guys are right, I would never bluff here and would never slowplay either.

#4) I had [Jh][Th] and he folded. This guy was a standard TAG and Im pretty sure he had something like 88. My hand looks like JJ+ to him. I think this is the perfect move against a multi tabling type ABC player.

#5) I forget what I had but I didnt have an ace or a pair at all. He folded also. Odds of him having an ace are alot lower than me having one. This is like a game of chicken. Who ever bluffs last wins, but he cant rebluff me here without just about going all in and nobody does that, so by default my bluff outbluffs his original bluff.

I really feel like Im timing my bluffs pretty well. I must be because Im still getting paid off on my big hands.

I'll embarass myself by not looking at anything but the original. I'll just say what my opinion would be with no background on you specifically.

1) Bluff. Your bet is too big to want a call. So, I'd call here for sure with 97, maybe even worse.

2) This looks kind of like a weird value-bet to me. Like you have KQ or something and are trying to look bluffy. You could also be stronger than that. I have to be able to beat KJ here to call.

3) I can go either way here. I'd have to put your weakest holding here as JT. If I were BB, I think I'd have to push 2 pair, though. I think you have either 2 pair or else 1 pair with T. AT is also in your range. So, I guess objectively, I probably need KJ or better to call vs. that range.

4) I also view this more as info raise. With 88 or better, I have to start thinking about how to proceed. Less than that, and I go away.

5) I can't let go of AJ or better, and I'm having serious trouble on any A. I guess if I'm fully on my game, I'd probably put my fold threshold somewhere in the A9 vicinity, although I'm not at all happy folding any A and may have to call with A2 if I think there's any chance of your pulling a bluff.
