Well, please forgive me for commenting on something I probably won't be in (bankroll currently too far down to be playing multiple $100 matches vs. good players), but just some ideas to run past you guys. Also, I do have some experience with attempting to take the reins when kuso kicked off the HU league--and some opinions as to why it didn't work.
Anyhow, one could do this fairly informally and on an ongoing basis if rules were set up to have a current "reigning btp HU champ" or something like that.
I haven't followed along on the details of who has been playing whom to claim the unofficial title, but it sounds like Roy, bk, and chuck are all somewhere in there. And whoever has come out on top there could be unofficial champ until challenged.
I'd suggest something like best 2 out of 3 to decide any challenge. And from there, it would be first one to post challenge gets to play the champ. Monetary reward would simply come from winning the matches for real $$.
Also, I think there would need to be some rights for old champ to re-challenge after a loss.
Oh, and finally, if the champ wanted to step down (tired of HU or whatever), the old title-holder would regain title automatically.
Basically, kind of doing it like holding the title in boxing except restricted to btpers and with purse determined by what you win at the tables.
Just an idea anyway, which I think might make it simpler and something ongoing. Various details would probably need to be worked out, too.
Also, as we all know, there's a lot of luck involved even in 2 out of 3 HU, so records of how often someone has won in title matches would clearly reveal who the strongest HU players here actually are over time.
