I'm likely a bit older than most here at 43...but I was into metal in my younger days and still like some of it. Most of the comments on why folks don't like the clips in the op are the same things my parents said about the stuff I was listening to in the late 70s/early 80s. Too 'angry', not melodic enough, no groove, bad lyrics, bad vocals, etc. I loved early solo Ozzy (because of Randy) but did I ever think he had a good singing voice? Hell no...in many cases I tolerated the vocals for the music (mainly guitar...I was a guitar playing teen that wanted to be the next Yngwie...without the attitude). I didn't really care what older people thought about my music then and I doubt most younger people care what I think now (cuz now I'm the old man yelling: "Get off my lawn"). I do have a few Pantera CDs but that's where I got off the train so to speak (was so sad to hear about Dimebag...tragic really).
EP9,
Buckethead is immensely talented and I typically love anything with good guitar but I guess I just don't get him. But I don't question his talent. A good example of what I like to listen to now is Guthrie Govan's recent CD Erotic Cakes (yes...it is a Simpsons reference). There are a TON of youtube videos of him. Monster player and covers a lot of different styles but none of them are what I would consider experimental...or hardcore. It's all instrumental...which are typically my favorites these days...remnants of all those bad vocals?
EDIT: Here's a couple:
it's just fer fun...makes me laugh
