PLO8 Hands for Critique

Postby piersmajestyk » Thu Oct 13, 2005 4:26 pm

I have really been playing aggresively in the PLO8 games with some good results. Here are a few hands that I played today and wanted to see what the thoughts were on them as I was in precarious shape in a couple of them. Is the converter not working for Omaha hands or do I need to make some adjustments for it to work. thanks for all thought.

Piers, I have experimented with a few different ways of playing the AA3x hands and I think you did fine there. It's a really hard hand to let go of on a flop that *just* catches you (like the 478 flop you had). I always assume (and I'm pretty sure the odds agree with me) that I'm good for low with my A3, but with that kind of flop it's hard to tell for sure if someone pushes back at you whether they have a high locked up or have one of the 2 remaining aces with a deuce. While you rarely will take high unimproved, it does happen a decent amount of the time. I think you are right in playing the variance game with it, as long as you don't become too attached to the hand on a so-so flop.

It seems like as more and more people start playing O8, more will call a big raise with just about any random hand if they think you have an AA hand (which probably 90% of preflop pot raisers have). Because of that I have started raising some of those random hands as well, but then again I'm assuming that other players at my table are paying attention, and they probably aren't.

I've looked at my PTO database and most of the winning players all have a pretty high PFR%, but aren't quite as aggressive after the flop. That aggressive post flop play can work on a short term basis, but I think the times you let that hand go will save you $$ over the long run.

Of course, a lot of this is table dependent, YMMV.

Doesn't seem too far from the way I play. All hands seem OK to me. 3rd one seems highly marginal, opponent-specific I guess. I'm ideally looking for Coop to be very bad to play that way.

i'm trying to sort out aggressive play with these sorts of hands in my own game, so i really like seeing these hands.

i like the raises pf and flop. but i have some comments about hands 1 and 3.

you can't really do anything but call in hand 1, but i am hating it that i got raised. there were a lot of cards that scooped or 3/4 you. when this hands hit, i feel like a genius -- when they don't, an idiot.

for hand three, ok, i see the motivation, but i would lay down on the turn. i would assume that i was drawing to a deuce or a club for half the pot -- not the kind of situation i like being in.
