No, it's not a deep tactic. It's just the typical way idiots play poker. It is -EV for them and +EV for you in the long run.
How to stop yourself going on tilt? First, recognize that this is a problem of emotional self-control, and not a poker issue at all. Lack of self-control will harm you in many areas of your life, so get it under control any way you can. The Tao of Poker is a good book for this, linking life lessons to poker lessons.
Second, recognize that every time you go on tilt you are throwing money away. The next time you feel yourself tilting, I suggest you turn off the computer immediately. Then get up, find a $5 bill, and light it on fire. Watch it burn, and think about how much money you are saving yourself by ONLY throwing away 5 bucks instead of continuing to play poker when you're on tilt. Next time maybe you can get up and take a walk instead, save yourself the 5 bucks.
