More (and hopefully better) FLO8 hands for analysis

Postby Stoneburg » Fri Jan 13, 2006 1:55 pm

After getting feedback on earlier hands I feel I have improved my game a bit, hopefully these won't contain quite as many errors. I haven't really got any litterature on this subject so this place and by playing is pretty much how I learn (I did read the O8 chapter in SS2 a while ago and will re-read it once I get the book back).

The converter seems to mess up the river, which is why I have had to paste it in like I have, hope it is still understandable. Remmeberm this is FLO8 in a Sit and Go format ($10+1 level) Now on to the hands...

#1
Preflop: Hero is SB with [Ad], [9d], [2c], [4s].
UTG calls, 1 fold, UTG+2 calls, 1 fold, MP2 calls, 3 folds, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: [7d], [Td], [8c] (5 players)
Hero bets, BB raises, UTG calls, UTG+2 calls, MP2 folds, Hero raises, BB calls, UTG calls, UTG+2 calls.

Turn: [5h] (4 players)
Hero bets, BB raises, UTG folds, UTG+2 calls, Hero raises, BB raises, UTG+2 calls, Hero calls.

River: [5d] (3 players)

Hero bets [60].
abb1954 calls [60].
triple0322 calls [60].

Hero shows [ Ad, 9d, 2c, 4s ] a flush, ace high.
Hero shows 8,7,5,2,A for low.
abb1954 doesn't show [ 9c, 9s, Jd, Ac ] a straight, seven to jack.
triple0322 doesn't show [ 3c, Kd, 2d, Js ] a flush, king high.
triple0322 doesn't show 8,7,5,3,2 for low.
Hero wins 705 chips from the main pot with a flush, ace high with ace kicker.
Hero wins Lo (705 chips) from the main pot with 8,7,5,2,A.

Should I raise this preflop? Normally I don't raise out of the SB but that's in PL where position is much more important. How about the post flop play?

#2
Preflop: Hero is MP2 with [Qs], [Ad], [4s], [2d].
UTG calls, 1 fold, MP1 calls, Hero raises, 1 fold, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, 1 fold, UTG calls, MP1 calls.

Flop: [8c], [Jh], [7d] (6 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, MP1 bets, Hero calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB calls, UTG folds.

Turn: [4h] (5 players)
SB checks, MP1 bets, Hero calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB folds.

River: [9c] (4 players)

ScharnerFuss bets [100].
Hero calls [100].
reddneckin11 calls [100].
SGPOTTER calls [100].

ScharnerFuss shows [ Jc, 4c, 5c, Jd ] three of a kind, jacks.
Hero shows [ Qs, Ad, 4s, 2d ] a pair of fours.

reddneckin11 shows [ 8s, 5s, 6s, Ks ] a straight, five to nine.
reddneckin11 shows 8,7,6,5,4 for low.
SGPOTTER doesn't show [ 2s, 3c, 5d, Qh ] high card queen.
SGPOTTER doesn't show 8,7,4,3,2 for low.
reddneckin11 wins 850 chips from the main pot with a straight, five to nine.
Hero wins Lo (850 chips) from the main pot with 8,7,4,2,A.

Very nice hand, definetely worth a raise because of both good high and low potential preflop, right? I'm really passive after the flop because I haven't got any high potential at all? Should I be raising at any point or just call down with the nut low? I figured I wanted as many overcallers as possible. Is it just be or does he mess up betting his trips that hard?

-------------------------------------------
#3
Preflop: Hero is UTG with [Ac], [9h], [2h], [8h].
Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, 1 fold, MP2 calls, CO calls, Button calls, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: [4h], [6d], [6s] (7 players)
SB bets, BB calls, Hero calls, UTG+1 calls, MP2 folds, CO folds, Button folds.

Turn: [7s] (4 players)

River: [9d] (4 players)

Big_Whit checks.
luckylover1 bets [100].
Hero calls [100].
abb1954 calls [100].
Big_Whit calls [100].

luckylover1 shows [ 7d, Qs, Ad, 7h ] a full house, Sevens full of sixes.
Hero shows [ Ac, 9h, 2h, 8h ] two pairs, nines and sixes.
Hero shows 7,6,4,2,A for low.
abb1954 shows [ Td, As, 9s, 2s ] two pairs, nines and sixes.
abb1954 shows 7,6,4,2,A for low.
Big_Whit doesn't show [ 3c, 4s, Tc, 4d ] a full house, Fours full of sixes.
luckylover1 wins 875 chips from the main pot with a full house, Sevens full of sixes.
Hero wins Lo (438 chips) from the main pot with 7,6,4,2,A.
abb1954 wins Lo (437 chips) from the main pot with 7,6,4,2,A.

I don't raise preflop because of bad position and the poor high potential of my hand, right or wrong? Just call on that flop with my low draw, the turn gives me an OESD but with a paired board I figure I am only going for at most half the pot so once again I just call down.

-------------------------------------------
#4
Preflop: Hero is SB with [3s], [2s], [2c], [Js].
3 folds, CO calls, Button calls, Hero completes, BB checks.

Flop: [8h], [5d], [6c] (4 players)
Hero bets, BB folds, CO folds, Button raises, Hero calls.

Turn: [7d] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets, Hero calls.

River: [Qd] (2 players)

Hero checks.
luckylover1 bets [100].
Hero calls [100].

luckylover1 shows [ Ah, 9c, 3d, 6d ] a flush, queen high.
luckylover1 shows 7,6,5,3,A for low.
Hero doesn't show [ 3s, 2s, 2c, Js ] a pair of twos.
Hero doesn't show 7,6,5,3,2 for low.
luckylover1 wins 400 chips from the main pot with a flush, queen high.
luckylover1 wins Lo (400 chips) from the main pot with 7,6,5,3,A.

I figure I misplayed this one but where do I muck it? On the turn?

-------------------------------------------
#5
Preflop: Hero is CO with [As], [6h], [7h], [7c].
UTG calls, 1 fold, Hero calls, Button calls, SB completes, BB checks.

Flop: [Js], [Th], [Ac] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, UTG checks, Hero checks, Button checks.

Turn: [7d] (5 players)
SB checks, BB bets, UTG calls, Hero calls, Button calls, SB calls.

River: [2c] (5 players)

Final Pot:

reddneckin11 checks.
ghoeti bets [200].
Big_Whit folds.
Hero calls [200].
abb1954 calls [200].
reddneckin11 calls [200].

ghoeti shows [ 7s, Tc, Qc, 8h ] two pairs, tens and sevens.
Hero shows [ As, 6h, 7h, 7c ] three of a kind, sevens.
abb1954 shows [ 5c, 3d, Ad, 2d ] two pairs, aces and twos.
abb1954 shows 7,5,3,2,A for low.
reddneckin11 shows [ 4s, Ah, 8d, 3s ] a pair of aces.
reddneckin11 shows 7,4,3,2,A for low.
Hero wins 1150 chips from the main pot with three of a kind, sevens.
reddneckin11 wins Lo (1150 chips) from the main pot with 7,4,3,2,A.

Now the table is shorthanded so I am loosening up, is this call too loose? Should I be raising the turn? I figured I might have the best hand because of the lack of action on the flop (people should bet a straight or set there) but I wasn't sure at all, since someone could have been holding TT and be afraid of the str8 or bigger set.

-------------------------------------------
#6
Preflop: Hero is Button with [Ad], [2c], [As], [7d].
Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: [4s], [8c], [Qs] (3 players)
SB bets, BB calls, Hero raises, SB calls, BB calls.

Turn: [6h] (3 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero bets, SB calls, BB calls.

River: [8s] (3 players)

ghoeti bets [300].
Big_Whit calls [300].
Hero calls [300].

ghoeti shows [ Qc, Js, 9d, 8h ] a full house, Eights full of queens.
Big_Whit doesn't show [ Ks, 3s, Jd, 4c ] a flush, king high.
Hero shows [ Ad, 2c, As, 7d ] two pairs, aces and eights.
Hero shows 8,6,4,2,A for low.
ghoeti wins 1800 chips from the main pot with a full house, Eights full of queens.
Hero wins Lo (1800 chips) from the main pot with 8,6,4,2,A.

Shorthanded I figured I would play my overpair and nut low draw aggressively, but I chicken out on the river. Should I be raising for value there even without a real high hoping to get an overcall? If I get re-raised I might be getting quartered and lose the caller... is it worth the risk?

-------------------------------------------

I think I played a bit better today, the advice from last time has helped. I've played 15 SNGs total and have a ROI of 118% with 40% first place finishes... this has to be a fluke, right?

Thanks for all the comments, still trying to take it all in, will be re-reading the posts a few times. Next time I think I will limit the amount of hands I post to 3 at the most, it gets kind of hard to seperate them when so many are presented.

I play the Party Poker $10+1 SNG's.

So the A677 hand isn't even playable shorthanded? I still don't have a grasp on the sliding scale of hand values, I thought it was marginal but not unplayable. What about 3 handed?

Great info with the pushing and pulling hands, that creates a thought system I feel I can easily incorporate into my game.

Hand #4 I should probably have folded to the flop raise and at the very latest to teh turn bet. Won't chase like this anymore... hopefully.

A677 has a painful dichotomy really - it's a weak PLO hand going high, and a weak PLO8 hand as well. Personally, short handed i'd prefer something like 4567 in PLO8; and that hand is a MUTT. Similar low strength and a lot more going high, but still garbage.Really, can you conceive a flop where A677 is looking good both ways??? At least a "high only" hand can be scooping on the flop if it hits hard; a weak hand which is low-orientated but without any sort of low feature can really only be playing one way in a two-way game, which not the way to win in O8.

4 random cards is probably better than A677 in a O8 game.

i think it's definitely wrong to fold with so many in the pot at the low blind levels -- esp. if they are donks who don't like the nuts. you're good even if you get quartered.

then again, i can't say i have a good track record at lo8 sngs, so take my advice for what it's worth.
