at levels 2/4 and above, most sites only rake $1 once the pot reaches $20. This is the max for 2-3 handed. Up to 3/6, this results in most hands not being raked. A typical hand will have a pfr, a CB and call on the flop, and another bet on the turn. with this sequence, the pot only breaks $20 if bets are called on the turn. i tend to play a relatively controlled game, so i really don't get into pissing contests pf or on the flop. as such, only the relatively big hands pay the rake.
stars is sweet because you only pay $0.50 at $20 and then another $0.50 at $40 when playing 2-3 handed. while you still rarely pay rake at 3/6, you only pay 2.5% or less when you do. the stars structure is nice, but it's hard to get and keep a HU game for any amount of time. that, and you don't have the advantage of datamined PT stats.
