one of the major mistakes you can do against a maniac or hyper lag is to push your marginal hands too strongly. On the flop, you hand is very good but now you only have one more card to come to make a hand which you might need. If you bet, its not likely he's gonna call with a hand that isn't currently ahead of you and he may have T8 for the straight. You don't want to have to deal with a raise and you could use another card. You have position, use it.
Also, he may bluff into you on the river when you hit your hand so it has that benefit too.
