Come play a tournament or two with me tonight. I am completely convinced that whatever cards I have are 2nd best even when I have monsters. Why? Because I'm usually right. Kings and Aces aren't winning, when I want a call, they fold, when I want a fold, they call. Take a stroll through my mind while I am playing. I'm going WAY too long with this and probably writing more for my own review than anything else, but if you happen to get through this, tell me what you think. It does get interesting at the end though.
-First time in the blinds 10/20. Folded to Button who pushes in for $1500. Just aggrivating. Of course I fold.
-Next time in the big blind 15/30. CO opens for $300 (10x BB). Sure, you can have my blind too.
-Limp (30) in MP w/ suited connectors. Just me and BB to flop w/ junk. I bet and take a very small pot.
-One of the fish dumps most of his stack to another big fish because he can't let go of 66 with 3 overcards showing. Winning fish can't get go of Any Ace and hits on the turn. Why can't I collect any of these chips. I need a hand first because they won't fold.
-BB again (30). One limper (big fish from last hand) and SB raises to 130. I fold and fish calls.
Flop is
[Ah][As].
Check-Check.
.
SB bets 150 and called. River
.
SB bets 150 again, fish raises to 500, and all the money eventually goes in.
SB
[Kd]
Fish
[9s]
SOB, 1st pair of Kings I see tonight. Hits the boat on the river and still loses. I'm not involved in the hand, but DO THEY EVER WIN??? Any Ace takes it.
Hand Observed: 4 way pot with both blinds, UTG, and myself all limping (30).
Pot is 120 FLOP
[9h][Jc]
Blind both check and UTG bets 300 (almost 3x pot). I'm gone, but BB calls.
Pot is 720 TURN
BB check, UTG all-in for 400 more which gets immediately called.
BB has
[Jh]
UTG Bluffer has
[7h]
What the hell are these people thinking? Playing that hand UTG, then bluffing off your entire stack without an out???? This is a serious question. What was he thinking?
I'm going nowhere yet. 1395 and not even a decent steal attempt.
The guy that lost with
[Kd] before actually has 175 left and pushes all-in UTG+1 with blinds 25/50. He is called only by MP2.
UTG+1
[Kh] KINGS AGAIN!!!
MP2
[Qs]
Board:
[Jd][9c] Open-ended str8 draw. Again not involved in the hand, but cringing. Turn
. River
STOP THE PRESSES!!! KK holds up!!! Even this time it's scary as hell though.
Blinds 25/50 and I've got
[Qs] UTG. Well, it's not as bad as KK. I raise to 200. Folded to BB (guy with KK twice) who pushes for 375. Can he have it again? I call and he shows
[Tc]. He actually flops a gutshot straight draw, but my big pair holds up. WHEW!!
Stack up to 1815 then 1865 after it's folded to me in BB.
Big fish limps UTG with K9 offsuit and bluffs off everyone, but flush draw. K-high is enough to win at showdown. It's good to be the fish. He's got over 4000 playing that way and is the table leader.
[7s] for me and I limp for 50 as MP3. This looked like a good hand to attempt a steal, but big fish is in the BB and I know he isn't folding. This can only get me in trouble, right? I see the flop with both blinds.
Flop
[Ah][2h]. Big Fish bets 50 into 150 pot. Gargbage. I raise to 200, but if he calls I'm done. Amazingly he folds and I take it.
Stack at 2090
On a board of
[Td][Th][Kc][6s], Big Fish calls down with
[9h]. Do they have fold buttons?
Big Hand: Blinds 50/100 UTG bets 300, called by MP1, MP3 pushes for 975. This seems to be MP3's only move (he was the guy that pushed 1500 to get my 20 blind earlier), but he's shown a couple of solid hands so far. Of course both guys think they are good enough to call.
UTG has
[8s]
MP1 has
[Th] What?
MP3 has
[Qs] and takes the pot with Ace on the flop.
Again I have to wonder what the hell these guys are thinking. Raising with 88 isn't good, but not horrible. When you get called and raised all-in though, you gotta let it go. MP1 was just a joke calling with that hand.
Big Fish catches again with Any Ace and takes another player's stack. He's up to 5000.
I finally have a steal opportunity in CO and take 150 in blinds with a 400 bet. SB says I must have had Tens or Jacks. I told him I had a Big Ace. What did I have? Q8 offsuit.
Chip stack at 1940. Still not going anywhere. Big FIsh has over 6000 and is more than 2x anyone else at the table.
Big FIsh bets 3x BB UTG with AJ, hits an Ace on the flop and is called down amazingly by 44 w/ all overcards on board. Again, what the hell are they thinking?
It's not KK, but it's close enough
Guy with 44 from previous hand bets 300 (2xBB) UTG+1, re-raised to 500 by BB which is called.
FLOP
[2s][Ks]
BB checks - UTG+1 is all-in. BB calls and shows
[Kc] for trip Kings. UTG+1 shows another small pair.
[6h]. Since there are now 3 Kings on the board, I'm sure you can guess what the turn card was.
and it's OVER!!!! UNREAL!!!
I'm able to limp/steal another one with a scary flop.
Stack size 2165 and holding. The Big Fish is over 8000 now.
Take a flop HU in the Blinds w/
[9h].
FLOP
[9c][2s]. SB bets 300. I raise to 600 and he folds.
Stack size starting to look formidable at 2615.
The Big Fish finally gets hooked for 1500 when he won't let go of Any Ace.
[As] UTG+2 for me. Blinds 75/150. I want to catch a fish who's been very aggressive lately. I limp, but it gets folded to blinds who both come in. Not what I wanted. Flop is all rags and I bet 500 into a 450 pot because I don't feel like playing anymore and take it. Some of the big pairs are actually holding up tonight.
The guy with one move pushes his over 3000 in a couple of times to take 225 in blinds. I don't get the strategy, but it seems to be working because he's at 3600 now with just one move.
SB pushes all-in vs my BB and I can't call. Still can't push my stack over 3000.
For the 2nd time in a row in SB I fold to BB who I haven't seen play a hand yet. I was thinking about stealing with
[3s], but I'm glad I didn't when he shows
[Ks]. I've let him pass twice, I have to steal next time.
We're past the break and blinds are 100/200 w/ about 50 left. 33 get paid.
I try another steal for 500, but BB calls. He gives it up to a continuation bet on the flop though. Finally break the 3000 barrier.
Stack size 3215
Here is a key hand a little later that cost me 400 in chips.
I have
[7d] in the SB and complete for a 4 way flop that comes
[Kh][Tc]. I check top pair to see who bets. I may be outkicked. 1st limper bets 200, 2nd limper calls 200. Pot is 1200. 200 bet seemed weak so I call. Pretty sure 2nd limper is on flush draw. TURN
. Check-Check- Bet 400. Looks like he has the flush and he wants to be called. I fold.
Would you have played it differently? Didn't want to throw away too many chips in case I was out-kicked. I couldn't really defend against a flush draw here, could I have?
All-in Preflop:
[Jh] vs
[Js] and when the
flops the favorite is now 80% to win, BUT this is the Pokerroom network after-all and the runner-runner hearts knocks the heavy favorite out of the tournament.
Big Fish is now over 11,000 and playing every pot. A strange and irritating thing has happened. I have 3115 and I'm 25th with 41 left, but I'm next to last at my table. All the small stacks are sitting at the same 2 tables. WTF???
I limp w/
[Tc] UTG and Mr 1 move pushes in AGAIN. I have him covered by 15 chips. I can't call this, but I will catch him.
I just turned the K-high flush in an un-raised pot from the BB, but I only profit 600 from it.
The very next hand I am in the SAME situation with the BB again where I said I would steal. He still hasn't played hardly anything. I double the BB and he finally decides to push all-in the 1st time I decide to steal against him. Could he put me on the steal? I let him pass 2x!! I have junk so I fold. He will be up over 5000 in just a few hands and I will be dead last at the table then.
Stack size 2915. Still in the middle of the pack, yet last at the table. AND they moved the chip leader to my table. Two stacks over 10,000 now. 1st and 2nd place.
NOW THE INSANITY BEGINS
Blinds 150/300.
UTG+2 raises to 1000 - SB (Big Fish) is in for 2000 - UTG+2 pushes all-in and Big Fish calls.
UTG+2
[Kc]
Big Fish
[Qc]
He actually has a hand this time, but nobody could put him on it with the way he's played. It gets cracked with the
on the river. 5300 pot.
Big Fish on the button open-limps for 300 - SB raises to 1000 - and Big Fish is all-in for 5830 more (tilt maybe?) - SB calls for 2465 more.
Big Fish
[Ad] I don't get that play at all, limping on the button.
SB
[Jd]
on the flop and the marginal favorite is down for the 2nd hand in a row.
UTG min raises to 600 - Big Fish (CO) raises to 900 (Yup - 3 hands in a row for him) - SB is all-in for 1760 - Only Big Fish calls.
Big Fish
[Ks] Are you kidding me???
SB
[Qd]
The Queens stand up this time.
At this point we are down to 37, just 3 out of the money and I'm in the late 20's in position. I lose the blinds and I'm down to 2465.
Mr. Tight to my left catches fire all of a sudden and is up over 10,000 now. We go a full orbit without much action, but Mr All-in pulls his one move again uncalled.
Blinds are now 200/400
[Kc] UTG and I raise to 1000. My only caller is Big Fish. Not who I wanted.
Board comes
[4s][2s][Js][8s] and is checked down. I didn't want to do anything stupid cause he could have a garbage Ace. A bluff here is for the rest of my stack. Pot ends up split as neither of us has a spade. He actually has
[7d].
VERY NEXT HAND
[Ks] again in the BB. Folded to Mr All-in in CO who has me covered and makes his move again. Gotta be a steal. NO WAY I'M FOLDING, RIGHT? I call, he shows
[Jh] and it holds up. I'm gone.
OK, so this seems to be almost every tournament I play lately. I can't get out of this rut, but I can't see where I made any huge mistakes. Why am I posting this here in my thread about big pairs?
The next tournament tonight I get busted when I catch QQ and JJ back to back. The JJ hand I end up against KK which finally holds up, but against me this time.
