CJ, I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the point where morons are gone. Why are you making that connection?

In any event, I don't cite that because I think the 20BB is a magic number. The way most SnGs are structured, you're pretty much going to be there by the third blind level. But I am pointing out the concept that it really isn't going to do you much good to wait until you're down to something like 6xBB before looking for a good hand to make a move. You've got to get looser and more aggressive long before you get to that point.

10 BB is my rule of thumb. I agree with CJ that 20BB is a huge stack many times. I also am starting to experiment with mid level suited connectors and not just Ax Kx type hands. Last night went all-in with 8BB holding 76s. Called by AQo and doubled up when I caught my straight. I actually caught a 6 on the flop and that would have been enough. Having live cards IS the key and I'm finding mid level connectors to be an interesting option.

Sunbob, yes, medium SCs are a good hand to play, although probably not as a push unless really desperate. They are especially good to play early on when the stacks are deep relative to the blinds and you're playing small ball.

I've found playing small ball early on is the best way to grow a chip stack.
