I just read this article for the first time and even though I'm quite late to the discussion I wanted to comment.
I think Godlike had the perfect word to describe this: inspirational. Seriously, an excellent description of a poker player's journey, so to speak. If a friend of mine expresses an interest in starting to play poker, this is what I will make him read.
I myself am still quite at the beginning of the curve - read a couple books (Small Stakes Holdem & Theory of Poker), played 4-5 months (maybe 4 hours a week).
I fully intend to keep reading the two books over and over again, but I've also gained a huge amount of knowledge lurking here, reading the discussions and articles posted by people considerably higher up on the curve than myself. Hopefully one day I will also be able to contribute something of use!
